The rumored Pokémon Diamond & Pearl remakes may be more like Pokémon Let’s GO than the mainline games like Sword & Shield according to a previous leak.
There’s a chance that the rumored Pokémon Diamond and Pearl remakes could be more like the recent Pokémon: Let’s Go games than Sword and Shield, according to a newly resurfaced rumor from 2019. This isn’t the first time this assumption has been made, but this particular’s rumor’s accurate claims have recently come to pass, making it much more more believable than simple speculation.
Pokémon Let’s Go: Pikachu and Eevee were released in 2018 for the Nintendo Switch and featured a hybrid of mechanics from the mainline games and Pokémon GO. The games replaced the traditional capture mechanics with a revamped version of Pokémon GO’s and made it so that players could only battle trainers instead of wild Pokémon. While Pokémon: Let’s Go was well-received and praised for its inclusion of overworld Pokémon, a number of fans have expressed their distaste in having the Gen IV Pokémon games remade in this more casual and gimmicky manner.

The Pokémon Diamond & Pearl remakes are still rumors at this point, as Nintendo or The Pokémon Company have yet to make any sort of official announcement. However, a resurfaced “leak” from 2019 claims that Sinnoh remakes are on the way and that they will feature Pokémon: Let’s Go capturing mechanics. The rumor was posted in October 2019, one month before the release of Pokémon Sword and Shield, and it accurately predicted that Mr. Mime would have a Galarian form and a new evolution. It also predicted that the Gen VIII fossils would be made by combining different fossils. This rumor was originally posted to 4Chan but was brought back to light by Reddit user BrandsXavier.
There have been a number of leaks over the past year claiming that remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl are on their way, and many members of the Pokémon community consider this a fact by this point. Earlier this month, the webmaster for the site PokéKalos claimed that big announcements would be on their sit in on Pokémon Day, February 27. Other sources, such as CentroPokémon, have claimed that Gen IV remakes are “confirmed“ for this year. However, The Pokémon Company has yet to address any of these rumors or make an announcement of its own.
That being said, it is Pokémon‘s 25th anniversary, and the franchise is known to go all out to celebrate this major franchise milestone. During the series’ 20th anniversary, it released Pokémon: Sun & Moon, and fans expect the same type of fan service this year. Of course, New Pokémon Snap is also releasing this year alongside Pokémon UNITE, but Pokémon fans are still expecting another mainline Switch title.
